UFC on FOX: Lawler vs. Brown Fight Results And Bonuses

Anthony Johnson and MMA veteran Antonio Rogerio Nogueira locked up last night in a brutal one round fight in the co-main event for UFC on FOX: Lawler vs. Brown, which aired for free on Fox Sports 1 and Sportsnet 360. The most impressive win clearly goes to Johnson, who managed to take out Lil Nog with heavy right hand strikes and ultimately finished him with uppercuts. Johnson won the fight via TKO at just 44 seconds into the first round, which also earned him his first Performance of the Night bonus award in the UFC.

The American mixed martial artist is now ridding on an eight-fight win streak, and is just one fight short from getting a title shot. As for Lil Nog, the talk is should hang up the gloves and walk away from the sport alongside his brother Antônio Rodrigo Nogueira.

The Last Of Us – Movie News From San Diego Comic Con

the last of us news - maisie williams

the last of us news – maisie williams

Some news about The Last of Us movie was made known at the Screen Gems panel at the San Diego Comic Con. Most notably, it was announced that Game of Thrones star Maisie Williams is in talks to play Ellie. This is a casting choice that makes total sense; she’s the right age and she already plays a nomad-type of character on Game.

Also, Sam Raimi is set to produce The Last of Us film, which is still in the early stages of development. Neil Druckmann, Naughty Dog’s creative director and writer, will write the film’s script, which will obviously have some story changes since this is a film adaptation of a video game. However, while Druckmann originally wanted the film’s ending to differ from that of the game’s, Raimi persuaded him otherwise. Nonetheless, Druckmann has final approval on the story and casting, so where the movie goes is still anyone’s guess.

What do you think of the casting news? And should the film have a different ending than the game?

Announced! The Evil Dead TV Series Is In The Works

Evil Dead

Evil Dead

During Sony’s Screen Gems panel at The San Diego Comic-Con, writer and director Sam Raimi took the time to discuss his film adaptation of Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us survival horror video game hit, which might even feature longtime friend Bruce Campbell, star of the original Evil Dead franchise. Obviously, Raimi had the opportunity to talk about his plans with Evil Dead at the panel, who revealed that a TV series is in the works right now with his brother. American producer Rob Tapert is also on board for the project.

Raimi said:

I always loved working on that series with Bruce Campbell and Rob Tapert and my brother and I are writing the Evil Dead TV show right now…with Bruce Campbell.

The Evil Dead franchise spawned numerous sequels, including Army of Darkness and the most recent 2013 reboot/sequel directed by Fede Alvarez. Fans should be happy hear this news since it sounds like Raimi will have his hands deep into the Evil Dead TV series.

We’ll keep you updated on Yell! Magazine if more is announced on the series. So, stay tune!

Kevin Smith’s Tusk Trailer – Anyone Want to Die In Canada? [VIDEO]

There’s no werewolves or vampires in Kevin Smith’s new monster movie, but a great big walrus that Justin Long (Jeepers Kreepers) is expected to painfully transform into. Will Smith’s walrus transformation scene break visual effects barriers like An American Werewolf in London did back in the early 80s? Who really knows right now because the new trailer for Tusk doesn’t reveal it much, other than Long is in a great deal of trouble after he meets Mr. Howe (Michael Parks), a walrus-obsessed adventurer.

Tusk also stars Haley Joel Osment (The Sixth Sense) as Wallace’s best friend, and Genesis Rodriguez (Identity Thief) as Wallace’s girlfriend.

Production for Tusk is now officially completed, which already means the horror movie is set to hit theaters on September 19th. The trailer above was unveiled during the San Diego Comic-Con earlier this week.

Enjoy and share horror!

More about Tusk

TUSK follows Wallace (Long), a journalist on a mission. He finds the story of a lifetime in Mr. Howe (Parks), a worldwide adventurer with amazing tales and a curious penchant for walruses.

The Walking Dead Season 5 Comic Con Trailer [VIDEO]

Above is the official The Walking Dead Season 5 trailer that was shown at the San Diego Comic Con. And holy crap! Do you think they showed us enough SPOILERS?

Let’s address, briefly, a few of those spoilers.

Beth, well she’s alive. Obviously she didn’t get captured by Joe and that temporary group that Daryl fell in with, as I had originally suspected. Season 4 left us in doubt about Beth’s existence, but the showrunners never addressed it after her capture, which was a pretty big indication that they were planning something in the future for her storyline. That new storyline seems to include official-looking law enforcement and a hospital of sorts.

Another major spoiler shows us that Rick and company get out of train car A, and that they end up forming some sort of alliance with their captors as they make their way to Washington D.C. to deliver Dr. Eugene Porter with the “cure.” However, trust is an issue, and, as Rick tells Carl, you’re never safe. Also, I’m pretty stoked that Sgt. Abraham Ford seems to have a pretty big role.

Aside from giving away way too much, the Comic Con trailer definitely leaves an impression and I think we have a lot to look forward to in Season 5 of The Walking Dead.

Ides of Gemini - Old World New Wave

Ides Of Gemini Unleash Haunting Teaser Trailer For Upcoming Album

On September 16th, Los Angeles-based doom weavers, Ides of Gemini, will unleash Old World New Wave, the direct follow-up to their 2012 Constantinople debut. The doom put forth in the new teaser trailer for the upcoming album, seen in the player above, is more haunting than your typical doom metal. Yes, it’s still dark as hell, but it feels more spiritual than evil, if you get my meaning.

The teaser video was directed and produced by singer/bassist Sera Timms and shot by Timms with drummer Kelly Johnston-Gibson. The clip is absolutely haunting, and maybe even a bit pagan with its incorporation of nature. It’s a confusing piece to look at because in terms of quality it’s up to today’s standards, but the effects and the movement is very 1930s, not unlike the film White Zombie.

Ides of Gemini - Old World New Wave

Old World New Wave was recorded at Valley Recording in Burbank, California, engineered and mixed by Chris Rakestraw (Danzig), mastered by Grammy award winning producer Matt Hyde (Slayer), and boasts the striking hand-drawn cover art of Johnston-Gibson.

Ides of Gemini Are:

Sera Timms (vocals, bass)
Johnston-Gibson (drums)
guitarist Jason Bennett (guitars)

Nick Diaz Extends His Contract With The UFC

Nick Diaz

Yesterday afternoon, former STRIKEFORCE welterweight champion Nick Diaz finally decided to come out of retirement with hopes to fight early next year. Diaz sat down with UFC President Dana White and CEO Lorenzo Fertitta to sort out a few issues he had and officially signed a three-fight contract extension in the UFC.

Diaz said that he’s been keeping in shape and time off from competing in the UFC has been a good experience for him. Diaz is pretty much ready to fight tomorrow, if he had to.

I’ve been doing a whole lot of not getting punched around-type stuff; I’ve been staying in shape pretty good, doing a lot of running. It’s been a good experience having this much time off. Next year I guess, whatever though. I can fight tomorrow; tonight, you have to do what you have to do. … [I came today] to sort things out with Dana White and Lorenzo [Fertitta].

There’s no scheduled fight confirmed for Diaz yet, however, rumor is that he could potentially face former UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva on Super Bowl weekend 2015. Both have been pretty vocal on facing each other in the past, so it’s really just a matter of time for the fight to come to fruition.

We’ll keep Yellers updated on Yell! Magazine.

Twitching Tongues - 2014

Twitching Tongues – World War Live (2014) Review

Twitching Tongues - 2014

Twitching Tongues – 2014

It is common for fans of heavier music to say, “They are much better live.” I can name a handful of bands that bring much more to their live show than what can be maintained in a recording studio. This is normal because when a band plays live they force out their best songs from all of their albums, and bring along an enjoyable experience with a frantic performance. Twitching Tongues is definitely a name that comes to my mind when thinking of great live shows and this is why they recorded an entire set and made it a CD, vinyl, and digital download. It is now accessible to hear the raw sound of their set on their new release, World War Live.

Do me a favor. Find the studio version of song “Eyes Adjust,” from their latest full length LP, In Love There Is No Law, and blast it as loud as you can. Take a listen to the same track on World War Live and you will find out that they are similar in sound, aggression, and vocal pitch. That’s right, Twitching Tongues is one of those bands where their singer does not sound exhausted or short on his voice live. Even on the incredibly quick monologued “In Love There Is No Law,” Colin Young nails every note. This has been a problem for other live albums from hardcore bands, but vocals do not fall short on World War Live.

The production and mixing also holds together well. “Sleep” is a song that changes pace sporadically multiple times during its course. From chaotic double drum pounds to doom grooves and to thrash riffs, never is one instrument overpowering the rest. One thing I wish I could hear was more of the crowd during the actual songs. Although present in some parts, the crowd is mainly heard before a song plays or a few times in chants. The setlist is also another thing to get excited over, featuring six songs from In Love There Is No Law and the most brutal songs from before that record as well.

Twitching Tongues, World War Live will be released on August 12th. Pre-orders can be made at: allinmerch.com

Verdit: 4/5 Skulls

World War Live is a solid live album, showcasing how talented Twitching Tongues really is. Even if you find yourself stumbling upon this band having never heard any of their material, this live album brings out their best songs in their most raw form.

Fantasia 2014: Bamboo Gods And Iron Men (1974) Review – It’s Black Kung Fu Gone Wrong!

Bamboo Gods and Iron Men

Bamboo Gods and Iron Men

Don’t be fooled by the title of this blaxploitation movie directed by Cesar Gallardo. You won’t find any Bamboo gods or any Iron Men here, just a bunch of bad guys and two heroes that couldn’t hurt a fly. What I mean is that there are lots of fight scenes, but all of them are terribly choreographed and look fake, making kung-fu seem harmless. Just picture someone throwing a punch at a guy who’s reaction time is slower than a sleeping drunk driver’s. That’s how bad some of the fights are, but fortunately, the movie gains some charm and positive points because of that. It’s always fun to watch two guys trying to fight seriously and look ridiculous at the same time.

Bamboo Gods and Iron Men

Bamboo Gods and Iron Men

Since I haven’t seen many blaxploitation movies, I was really expecting to see something extremely violent here, and copious use of the “n” word. Much to my chagrin, Bamboo Gods and Iron Men, I should really just call it Black Kung Fu, truly offers none of that. The sex scenes were pretty tame too. Maybe I had a bad perception going into this movie because I watched way too many Quentin Tarantino movies, so I imagine it’s time for me to look for another inspiration that will help further my exploration into the genre. From what I’ve been told, Blaxploitation films are meant to give you more than just hardcore violence, and I can honestly say that Black Kung Fu shows another side of the genre. It has a lot of humor, intentional or not, and occasionally it will leave you scratching your head because some of the dialogue makes absolutely no sense. The action scenes also look foolish, like it was conceived by a bunch of kids with zero comprehension of fight logistics.

Bamboo Gods and Iron Men

Bamboo Gods and Iron Men

As far as the story goes, you shouldn’t expect anything award winning. Maybe something that falls into the Nickelodeon Hall of Fame. It follows the journey of Cal Jefferson (James Iglehart), a top American boxer who takes his a wife on a honeymoon to Hong Kong. That night, things suddenly turn into a really confusing situation with a bunch of criminals who are trying to get their hands on a Bouddha statuette that Jefferson purchased for his wife while shopping. Why does the statuette cause so much grief for the couple? It’s hard to say, but you’ll be laughing your ass off at the end of the movie, just as did I and the rest of the audience during the 2014 Fantasia Film Festival.

The Verdict: 2.5 Skulls

You won’t find a lot of information on the director and details about most of his movies are pretty mysterious, which is surprising since he has 75 to his credit. So, I’m hoping this review might give you an idea about the kind of work Gallardo delivers, and you might consider giving Bamboo Gods and Iron Men a try. If you enjoyed Samurai Cop, then I promise Bamboo Gods and Iron Men should hit home too.

Sepultura To Make Live Offering (CD/DVD/Blu-Ray)

sepultura and les tambours du bronx

sepultura and les tambours du bronx

This September, Sepultura will release the live album Sepultura And Les Tambours du Bronx: Metal Veins – Alive At Rock In Rio in honor of their 30-year career. No doubt that Sepultura is among Brazil’s most internationally successful bands, but they’re also one of heavy metal’s elite. In reality, they stand toe-to-toe with the likes of Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, Anthrax, Exodus, Death Angel, Overkill, and others.

Sepultura And Les Tambours du Bronx: Metal Veins – Alive At Rock In Rio will be released in North America on September 16, 2014.

If you can read the title of the upcoming live album, then it’s pretty obvious that Sepultura was joined by Les Tambours du Bronx, a French industrial percussion group known to beat on 225-liter barrels with beech wood bats or ax handles. It’s also obvious that it was recorded at Rock in Rio, during the 2013 edition. The full track list is below, but highlights include “Refuse/Resist,” “Territory” and “Roots Bloody Roots.”

Metal Veins – Alive At Rock In Rio will be available on CD, DVD, and, for the first time in the band’s history, Blu-Ray via a partnership with Rock In Rio, MZA Music, and Eagle Rock Entertainment. In addition, the DVD includes an exclusive documentary of behind-the-scenes preparation with interviews, rehearsal and sound-check footage and clips of the band just seconds before they hit the stage.

Metal Veins – Alive At Rock In Rio Track Listing:

1. Kaiowas
2. Spectrum
3. Refuse/Resist
4. Sepulnation
5. Delirium
6. Fever
7. We’ve Lost You
