The new Child’s Play remake hit theaters yesterday and it clearly captured the audience attention. Or vice versa? Well, let’s just say the Alamo Drafthouse in Austin, TX had a special treat. The entire theater was filled with Chucky cosplayers who sat during the special screening and watched in fear as the “Buddi” doll spread dread in the new remake. A contemporary re-imagining of the 1988 horror classic, CHILD’S PLAY follows Karen (Aubrey Plaza), a single mother who gifts her son Andy (Gabriel Bateman) a Buddi doll, unaware of its more sinister nature.
Directed by Lars Klevberg, written by Tyler Burton Smith, and produced by Seth Graham-Smith and David Katzenberg, Child’s Play stars Aubrey Plaza, Gabriel Bateman, Brian Tyree Henry, and Mark Hamill as the voice of Chucky.
The film officially dropped in theaters on June 21st.
