New Director Attached For Another Star Wars Spin-Off, Guess Who?

Did you think Godzilla director Gareth Edwards would be the only one at the helm of a new stand-alone Star Wars movie? I hope not, because Disney and Lucasfilm have big plans to expand the universe in the epic space opera franchise, and there’s a good chance we’ll see a Star Wars movie per year in the very near future. Fans will be happy to hear that there will be no more lengthy gaps between each new installment. George Lucas annoyed fans with that for many years, and it definitely appears like it won’t be the case anymore.

Josh Trank (The Fantastic Four) is the newest member of the Star Wars family. He will be responsible for directing another stand-alone movie among multiples that will help expand the story beyond the core Saga of Star Wars.

We’re thrilled to welcome Josh into the family,” says Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy. “He is such an incredible talent and has a great imagination and sense of innovation. That makes him perfectly suited to Star Wars, and for this new slate of movies that reach beyond the core characters and storylines of Episodes I through IX.

Trank previously captured lots of attention with his directorial debut, Chronicle, which was nominated at the Saturn Awards for Best Science Fiction Film. Like Edwards, Trank is also extremely excited to take on the job.

The magic of the Star Wars Universe defined my entire childhood. The opportunity to expand on that experience for future generations is the most incredible dream of all time.
