Chris Weidman vs. Vitor Belfort Slated For UFC 173 In May

Chris Weidman

After beating former UFC Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva twice, Chris Weidman (11–0) is finally ready to move with a new opponent to solidify himself as the current middleweight champion, and possibly become one of the greatest champions ever.

Vitor Belfort (24–10) is the next guy in line for a title shot, after defeating top contenders Luke Rockhold, Michael Bispin, and Dan Henderson. The bout is now officially slated to headline UFC 173 on May 24, 2014, in Las Vegas, UFC President Dana White announced via FOX Sports 1.

Weidman said:

I beat Anderson Silva twice, the greatest of all-time, and now I have the opportunity to really solidify myself as champion by beating a different guy, so I’m pumped for that.

In addition, White also revealed the co-main event of UFC 173, a bad-blood fight between TUF: Brazil coaches Chael Sonnen (28–14–1) and Wanderlei Silva (35–12–1). There’s been lots of buzz over Sonnen vs. Silva because of the longtime feud, and a fight already broke out between them during the filming of TUF.

So far, I’m smelling a great fight card for UFC 173, we’ll continue to bring you more updates in the days and weeks to come.
