Confirmed – Metallica Will Play Antarctica

Last week we mentioned that there was talk about the possibility of Metallica playing a show in Antarctica. That talk has been confirmed.

In partnership with Coca-Cola Zero, Metallica will play in Antarctica, but the show isn’t for everyone. If you want to go on this epic journey, fans will have to enter a contest that is being launched in Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, and Mexico. What do fans have to do in this contest? It’s pretty simple; all you have to do is share through Coca-Cola Zero’s Twitter account (@CocaColaZeroAr) what you’d be willing to do to go on this once-in-a-lifetime expedition. Don’t forget to include the hashtag #CocaColaZeroAntartida

If you’re lucky enough to be one of the assholes going on this trip, your cruise will depart on December 3rd from the port of Ushuaia, in Tierra del Fuego. During the 10-day journey to Antarctica, you’ll experience beautiful landscapes and have the chance to participate in lectures provided by specialists, see audiovisual material on the work of the scientists, and receive environmental information.

Metallica will play from a spot close to the heliport of the Carlini Argentine Base and will have a feature that will make it absolutely exceptional: it will be broadcast to the audience through headphones. Yeah, that’s exceptional — exceptionally stupid. I don’t know, but something special will have to be coming through those headphones.

If you’re not one of the lucky assholes going on this trip and you reside in one of the participating countries, you’ll be able to catch the show as it’s streamed live through Coca-Cola.tv and Coca-Cola.fm.

Metallica’s comments on the adventure:

After over 30 years as a band, we have been unbelievably fortunate to visit just about every corner of the Earth… except for one. That is all about to change as we are set travel to Antarctica, the only continent that Metallica has never played on until now!! We are partnering with Coca-Cola Zero for one of the most unique and special concert events in our career as we’ll be performing near the heliport of the Argentine Antarctic Base Carlini on Sunday, December 8, 2013.

Latin American fans in Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, and Mexico will be able to enter a contest for the chance to win an Antarctic cruise that sails December 3-10 and will stop at Carlini. We’ll be playing inside a dome on the base and in another twist, the show will be transmitted to the audience via headphones with no amplification… a real first for us! The show will also be streamed live for our friends in those Latin American countries who cannot join us at the base and filmed to share with everyone at a later date.

Coca-Cola Zero will donate equipment to the new Carlini base laboratory and help distribute the wonders of Antarctica via a documentary. The entire “Música Zero” experience will be broadcast previously and during the event.
