Metallica “Atlas, Rise!”

The November 18th release date for Metallica’s new album, Hardwired… to Self-Destruct, is fast approaching. As such, we’ve been treated to yet another release from the album.

The new Metallica track is the six-plus minute riff-heavy “Atlas, Rise!” The track is a mid-tempo thrasher and, as indicated, full of aggressive riffs with some cool tweaks and great-sounding solo from Kirk. The solo isn’t anything we haven’t heard from Kirk before, but it’s nice to hear him at shredding.

Lars is tight on the drums, which again sound great. Unlike the previous two tracks, “Hardwired… to Self-Destruct” and “Moth into Flame,” from the album, we’re not treated to any double bass, but it is definitely Lars’ style.

James delivers impeccable rhythm and his voice finds the sweet spot throughout.

Robert’s bass is there, providing a solid foundation, but I personally would have liked to hear his levels brought up a notch or two.

Honestly, it’s a great song and it will definitely be a hit with fans and during live shows. In fact, I might go so far as to say that it may become a concert staple.
