Georges St-Pierre Is Officially A Free Agent

Georges St-Pierre

Following an interview with MMA Fighting’s Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour, former UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre broke news that he is officially a free agent and that he is no longer under contract with the UFC.

GSP said,

You heard it right, I’m a free agent.

The rumor last week was that GSP was expected to headline the UFC 206 fight card in Toronto, with a co-main event featuring a rematch between UFC Light Heavyweight Championship Daniel Cormier and No.1 contender Anthony Johnson. However, GSP officially ruled out of UFC 206 on Monday.

According to GSP, his team was working hard to come to terms with the UFC for a fight on the Toronto card, but due to business differences, the deal didn’t work out. Apparently, WME-IMG (the new owners of the UFC) pulled the offer on the table from former CEO Lorenzo Fertitta and put negotiations on hold.

It was like a shock, because we felt like we were making progress, we were almost there. When they told us that, I got angry.

It sounds like GSP is completely discouraged from the entire negotiation process and plans to take a vacation to put his mind at ease.

I was very pumped up a few weeks ago when we talked. Now, I’m not as pumped up as I was. I’m entering unknown water, unknown territory. I just don’t know what’s gonna happen.
