Those of you who have a constant craving for Italian gore will be thrilled about this upcoming Blu-ray release of Marino Girolami’s horror film, Zombi Holocaust, which is also better known in the U.S. as Zombi 3 and Doctor Butcher M.D..
The horror film initially launched in 1980. Apparently, at the time of its release, Zombi Holocaust sparked riots on 42nd Street, spawned a generation of gorehounds on VHS, and forever set an insane standard for Italian mad doctor/zombie/cannibal carnage worldwide.
Back in the day, Zombi Holocaust was re-edited for U.S. release by a notorious American distributor, who certified as a grindhouse masterpiece. The English version contained a 2½ minute sequence from an unfinished film that was to be called Tales to Rip Your Heart Out, and a different music score. Certain scenes were also re-edited for pacing reasons.
Now, 36 years later, Severin Films will re-release both the Italian and American version fully restored for the first time ever from original vault elements discovered in Manhattan and Rome.
According to the press release, the Blu-ray release will also contain “all-new Bonus Features that finally reveal the unbelievable truth behind its bizarre history, infamous marketing and still-deviant legacy.”
The Zombi Holocaust hits store shelves on July 26, 2016.
