UFC 202: Nate Diaz vs. Conor McGregor 2 Back On This Summer

UFC 202: Diaz vs. McGregor 2

Initially scheduled for UFC 200, the Conor McGregor welterweight rematch with Nate Diaz will now officially take place at UFC 202 later this summer.

The hotly anticipated fight was finally announced during the UFC 199 pay-per-view broadcast on Saturday night, which also featured a promo for UFC 200 with former UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar returning for one last fight.

Diaz pulled off the shocking upset at UFC 196, defeating the Irish sensation by submission in the second round of the main event. Ever since his first UFC loss, McGregor has been pushing for the Diaz rematch, which was instantly booked for UFC 200, but was later cancelled because McGregor refused to do promotional work at a live UFC 200 press conference.

A rumored boxing match between Floyd Mayweather and McGregor has been circulating for the past few weeks, but with this recent announcement, the bout will have to be postponed for many months or even years, if it actually happens.

Freddie Roach said it would take him at least three years to prepare McGregor for Mayweather,

As I told Mayweather, I said, ‘it would take me three years at least to get him ready to fight you.’ I don’t really think it’s possible for an MMA fighter to fight a boxer and I don’t even really think it’s fair. Depends on what rules you fight under, one person has too big of an advantage. Mayweather would outbox him all day long. Conor McGregor seems like a tough guy and all that but being a tough guy doesn’t really help you in boxing…

UFC 202: Diaz vs. McGregor 2 will be held on August 20, 2016 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. No other bout has been confirmed for UFC 202.
