Former UFC heavyweight champion Fabricio Werdum wasn’t granted an immediate rematch with Stipe Miocic following his first-round title loss at UFC 198, but both fighters will be fighting on the same night at their next fight event.
As of Sunday night, UFC 203 is shaping up to be a night of heavy hitters. The UFC announced Werdum will square off against Ben Rothwell in the co-main event. It’s the same night UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic will defend the title against Alistair Overeem in the main event in Cleveland, Ohio.
At UFC 198, Werdum suffered his first loss in the UFC since his return in February 2012. The Kings MMA fighter had won six straight fights and nine of 10 on his road to the title. Rothwell was riding a four-fight winning streak until he faced Junior dos Santos in April, losing by unanimous decision.
UFC 203: Miocic vs. Overeem takes place on September 10, 2016.
