After weeks of talk about UFC 162: Silva vs. Weidman, the Weidman train derailed the Silva train. At 1:18 of the second round, Weidman knocked out Silva with punches to become the new UFC Middleweight Champion.

Other main card results below.

It all started, however, before fight began when Silva ignored Weidman’s glove tap during final instructions. And then… the cocky arrogance and taunting from Silva just escalated while Weidman was all business. Perhaps if Silva had checked his ego in at the door he would still be the champion. But he didn’t, and he lost.

Silva at least had the dignity to give Weidman credit after the fight:

Chris Weidman is the best, he’s the new champion. He’s the best.”

According to mmafighting.com, Silva declined Weidman’s rematch offer and told Joe Rogan that he was done with title matches, but that he would continue to compete. I guess holding two UFC records (win streak: 16; title defenses: 10) is good enough for the former champ.
