UFC Entrance Music – 146

UFC entrance music is as much a part of the event as the fights themselves. OK, maybe that’s a bit of an exaggeration, but it’s as much a part of the spectacle as the ring girls are.

While UFC entrance music should certainly serve to motivate the fighter, it’s no guarantee of victory – no matter how badass the song might be. What’s surprising is how shitty and uninspiring many of the songs are, which is why Yell! Magazine is here – to weed out the crap and present the good stuff (or at least to present the UFC entrance music that makes sense).

UFC Entrance Music – 146

“Gonna Fly Now” by Bill Conti

Junior dos Santos vs. Frank Mir
Yeah, Rocky’s “Gonna Fly Now” is a bit cliche for UFC entrance music, but there’s no one in the athletic world that doesn’t get when those horns kick in. It’s no surprise that dos Santos’ choice in music even kicked the shit out of Mir’s “Amazing” selection.

“Lose Yourself” by Eminem

Cain Velasquez vs. Antonio Silva
Silva’s choice with Eminem’s “Lose Yourself” didn’t help him drop winning bombs, but it’s great UFC entrance music. Maybe he got lost in the music. Velasquez, on the other hand, went with some cultural stuff (“Los Mandados” by Vicente Fernandez) that makes sense to him and his countrymen.

“We Will Rock You” by Queen

Roy Nelson vs. Dave Herman
Queen’s “We Will Rock You” has been a sports anthem since 1977. Apparently it still works because Nelson defeated Herman with a KO punch. He really did rock him. Not that Herman’s UFC entrance music wasn’t great, just maybe it might have affected him subliminally.

“Sabotage” by Beastie Boys

Roy Nelson vs. Dave Herman
As mentioned, Herman lost to Nelson. We think Herman’s choice in UFC entrance music may have sabotaged his efforts. Get it? “Sabotaged” his efforts.

“Points of Authority” by Linkin Park

Stipe Miočić vs. Shane del Rosario
Anyone who listens to Linkin Park is a loser in our books, so how Stipe won in the second round is a mystery to us. Still, the lyrics make sense, so…

“Cryin’ Like a Bitch” by Godsmack

Stefan Struve vs. Lavar Johnson
It’s no surprise that Struve won with this UFC entrance music. Shit, this should be any fighters’ theme music. We talked about the song, “Cryin’ Like a Bitch,” and video extensively before, and I have to say that I disagree with that writer. Struve won by submission, so he actually got to hear Johnson cry like a bitch.

“TNT” by AC/DC

Jacob Volkmann vs. Paul Sass
AC/DC has been producing blood-boiling, testosterone-fueled rock since forming in the ‘70s. But imagine walking to the octagon with “TNT” as your UFC entrance music: “Oi, oi, oi, oi, oi, oi…” Fucking brutal. Too bad Volkmann lost to Sass and his shitty Kanye West selection.
