No.5 Vera Farmiga

Vera Farmiga

About Vera Farmiga

Bates Motel TV SeriesOut of all the women on this list, few have the versatility as Vera Farmiga. She really made a name for herself in 2009′s Up in the Air, but recently has been delving into the horror genre. She is doing a fantastic job on A&E’s brand new Bates Motel series, and her new film The Conjuring is sure to be creepy. Alongside these two roles she also has a slew of new movies completed or in production.

No.4 Katherine Isabelle

Katherine Isabelle

About Katherine Isabelle

American Mary (2012) posterSome people will know Katherine Isabelle from her early starring role in the Ginger Snaps films. Arguably the best werewolf film in recent memory. Isabelle has a new movie out this year entitled American Mary. I got to see the film earlier this year and can say it’s easily one of the stronger independent horror films. Katherine Isabelle has such a cool sexy demeanor that she demands attention in all of her scenes. American Mary is getting a limited theatrical release later this year, so catch it if you can!

No.3 Jennifer Carpenter

Jennifer Carpenter

About Jennifer Carpenter

quarantineFrom playing Angela Vidal in Quarantine (the American remake of [Rec]), to playing Emily Rose and Debra Morgan, Jennifer Carpenter is far from a stranger to horror. Most people know her best as the title character’s sister Debra on TV’s Dexter, but Carpenter has appeared in quite a few horror films. She did an exceptionally creepy job in 2005′s The Exorcism of Emily Rose as the title character. She starred as Angela in the great American remake Quarantine, and has several movies in the works. Most notably is the thriller Devil’s Rapture (2013) and the upcoming horror-western, Bone Tomahawk (2014).

No.2 Chloe Grace Moretz

Chloe Moretz

About Chloe Grace Moretz

Carrie (2013)Most American remakes tend to lack a certain passion often found in their foreign counter parts. One notable exception is Let Me In, a remake of the Swedish film Let the Right One In. As I mentioned earlier, Let the Right One In hit a home run in the vampire genre and its American remake is on par with the original. Chloe Grace Moretz plays Abby, an old vampire in a 12-year-old’s body. The film explores childhood and love and is a surprisingly touching story. Luckily, Chloe Grace Moretz brings such a humanity to Abby that I often forgot what a monster she is. Soon Chloe Grace Moretz will be taking on another remake in Carrie. Filling Sissy Spacek’s shoes will be no easy feat, but if any young actress is capable of it, it’s Moretz. Carrie is set to hit theater’s October 18, 2013.

No.1 Jane Levy

Jane Levy

About Jane Levy

Evil Dead (2013) PosterThe new Evil Dead movie did an awesome job rebooting a beloved franchise. Jane Levy kicked ass – plain and simple. With the financial success of the movie’s opening weekend, it seems safe to assume a sequel will happen. Hopefully it will be in a similar vein as the original Evil Dead 2, and they bring back Jane Levy’s Mia. After you see the new film you will see all the possibilities that lie ahead for this franchise. On a side note, I cannot wait for the rumored Uncut DVD of Evil Dead.
