No.10 AnnaLynne McCord

AnnaLynne McCord

About AnnaLynne McCord

Excision (2012) PosterAnnaLynne McCord gave such a deliciously twisted performance in Excision that it’s a bit hard to see her moving past it. I had seen her before in Nip/Tuck and in small side roles, but she just got so under the skin in Excision that it creeps me out just to think about that film’s climax. McCord has two new films coming out this year, Gutshot Straight and Scorned, both of which are thrillers.

No.9 Lina Leandersson

Lina Leandersson

About Lina Leandersson

Let the left One InMany people may not know Leandersson by name, but most horror fans know of a little Swedish film called Let the Right One In. The film was a huge hit with genre fans because in a time of Twilight-style vampires crowding the market place, Let the Right One In was a healthy dose of mature vampires. The funny thing is, the film centers on two characters who are younger than the Twilight characters. The film succeeded in no small part because of Leandersson’s ghostly performance as Eli, who, despite looking 12, is actually decades old. The film is a touching love story and an interesting look at being a misunderstood child. It also paved the way for the equally good American version, Let Me In.

No.8 Robin McLeavy

Robin McLeavy

About Robin McLeavy

The Loved Ones The Loved Ones was probably my personal favorite horror film of 2012. The combination of dark meta-comedy and unflinching violence, The Loved Ones was nothing short of exceptional. This was mostly thanks to Robin McLeavy‘s uncompromising role as an innocent and lonely psychopath. Where a lot of the audience’s compassion may have been with her male costar, their attention was usually on McLeavy. She also played a fun role in the lackluster adaptation of Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. I haven’t seen anything on what she is working on now, but I am hopeful it will be awesome.

No.7 Shauna McDonald

Shauna McDonald

About Shauna McDonald

The DescentThe Descent ranks among the best horror films of the past few decades. Shauna McDonald‘s spelunking trip turns into a claustrophobic nightmare in the 2005 film. While there is a lackluster sequel, most people choose to just rewatch the first film. McDonald has two films currently set to release later this year, but neither of them is a horror film. Still, I hope both films turn out well and I hope McDonald returns to horror.

No.6 Kristen Connolly

Kristen Connolly

About Kristen Connolly

The Cabin In The Woods (2012) PosterKristen Connolly had a pretty big year in 2012 with the release of The Cabin in the Woods, which for a lot of people was the best horror film of the year. She also had a smaller found-footage film called The Bay get a release toward the end of last year. The best thing about the two films is that she plays such different roles in each. Showing her range as an actor and knack for not just being cast as the same “blonde chick” in every single movie.
