The second episode of The Walking Dead, Season 5, picks up pretty much where the premiere left off. Our newly reunited tribe is on the move after narrowly escaping Terminus.

A Clean Slate

Director David Boyd did a brilliant job with the opening montage-esque scenes in which pairs of principal characters get caught up with one another and made various confessions. The poignance of these scenes was made all the more apparent when Carol said to Daryl that she didn’t want to talk about “it,” and when Daryl later continues that they all get to start over with a clean slate. How many of you thought that he was going to come out of the closet at this point?

If the rumors that circulated this summer about Daryl’s sexual orientation were true, this would have been the ideal time to reveal that. The reason the rumor mill gave for Daryl’s sudden gayness was to help the show gain sway with the LGBT demographic, but it occurred to me during “Strangers” that we already have a lesbian character, Tara. So what would the point be?

Before we continue with Tara’s lesbianism, did anyone find the scene between Rick and Carol odd? The one in which he said to her that he had condemned her to living out in the open and then asks if it would all right if the tribe joined her? It makes sense, but it seemed like a formality and directly contradicts the fact that the tribe values Rick as its leader, which was made apparent as they entered the church and one by one said to Sgt. Abraham Ford that they intend to do what Rick thinks is best.

Back to Tara. She seems awkward around Maggie, leaving one to wonder if there’s a sexual attraction there or if it’s just her guilt that’s plaguing her about being apart of the Governor’s group when Hershel, Maggie’s father, was executed. Nonetheless, Tara confesses to Maggie, making Tara one of the most straight-up characters on the show, despite the weird fist bump with Rick.

More questions came up regarding The Walking Dead, Season 5, Episode 2. Can you answer them?
