Night Of The Dolls – The “Shrine Clip” Builds Terror

night of the dolls posterThe new clip for Daniel Murphy and Tom Komisar’s Night of the Dolls doesn’t seem like much at first. The music is deceptively playful. The sound of the scissors cutting through paper is familiar and calming. Nothing is wrong here, except the dim lighting, and then the grit and dirt, and then the droning music and eerie, child-like humming. In the end, the “Shrine Clip” has a Texas Chainsaw Massacre meets Silence of the Lambs vibe to it.

Night of the Dolls synopsis:

Kari, Lydia, Chloe, and Molly play in a band called the Lolita Dolls. Their best friend Lenny accompanies them on a road trip. During this trip, they visit an old Sanitarium to shoot a music video. They were never seen again.

If you prefer more detail, the film’s Facebook page offers this summary:

“It’s been 20 years since the Sheriff’s Department made the gruesome discovery in the basement of the Brookhurst Sanitarium. Unspeakable crimes of freakish experiments performed on female patients at the hands of the sick and demented monster, Dr. Graves.

Kari, the lead singer of the all girl punk band The Lolita Dolls has been obsessed with the story about his victims since childhood. After receiving a mysterious e-mail, Kari befriends a ‘Fan’ online who invites the Band to the Sanitarium to film a video for a song off of their new CD, Fallen Angels.

With the help of a Van and their friends Lenny and Steve, the Girls set out on a punk rock road trip of a lifetime, only to discover that the legacy of terror hidden behind the walls of the Brookhurst Sanitarium is far from over.

It’s, like, totally wicked cool to see a horror movie coming out with the rare almost-all-girl cast. As HorrorSociety.com pointed out, let’s hope that the killer is female as well. I love seeing how unrealistically strong movies make females look when they’re in the aggressor’s role.

Night of the Dolls stars D Lawson, Emily Kathryn, Cassie “Boom” Guthrie, Linda Schrader, Brittany Mendiola, and Chuck Smith. The film is expected to be released in 2014
