Metallica Play Antarctica – Freeze ‘Em All

Metallica played their historic concert in Antarctica on Sunday, December 8, 2013, from within a small dome to a small audience comprised of Coca-Cola Zero contest winners, researchers, and the ship’s crew. While their set was short, just 10 songs (listed below), Metallica can now boast that they’ve played on all seven continents. Show-goers had to wear special headphones to fully appreciate the music.

If you laughed at the way Lars is wearing his winter hat, you’re with me, brothers. But, given the fact that there was no breath seen inside the dome, the winter gear was just for show… those silly Californians.

Check out the full show in the video player above and let us know what you think. If you ask me, the only redeeming quality about the show is the fact that it was played in such a remote location. Other than that, the energy seemed low and the sound was just barely passable.

This was the most unique show Metallica has ever done. The band, contest winners, research station scientists (from Russia, South Korea, China, Poland, Chile, Brazil and Germany), and the ship crew, all crammed in this little dome out on the helipad of Carlini Station in ANTARCTICA! The energy in the little dome was amazing! Words can not describe how happy everyone was.

The band cranked out 10 songs for the small crowd including Creeping Death, For Whom the Bell Tolls, Sad But True, Welcome Home (Sanitarium), Master of Puppets, One, Blackened, Nothing Else Matters, Enter Sandman, and Seek & Destroy.

No word on if there were any penguins were attendance.l

Metallica also posted pictures of the event on their Facebook page.
