We’re on the scene at Heavy MTL 2013. Here’s our first post of pics and comments for the day and we’ll be updating every few hours from here on out.
Heavy MTL 2013 is underway and running like a well-oiled machine, as it should be after the five years. We’re currently about one-quarter of the way through the day’s lineup, and so far we’ve seen Device, Hellyeah, Halestorm, and GWAR.
By far GWAR has been the most intense and entertaining act of the day so far. It’s hard to compete with massive latex costumes, spewing blood, Jesus Crucifictions, and more. We’ve seen GWAR before, and were even stood up by Oderus Urungus for an interview, but we’ve never seen/heard the crowd chant for an encore before.
The runner up performance is easily Hellyeah, who touched the Canadian heart by draping their amps with the mighty red and white Maple Leaf. Chad Gray delivered perfect metal/rock vocals, and ended the set with the most touching, sentimental drivel, “Enjoy your day of music.” Actually, it was appreciated, on this beautiful and sunny day that’s the perfect temp.
We’ll be updating throughout the day on the fly, so, for now enjoy our pics of the fans and the bands. If you’re lucky, maybe we’ve captured you. Also, keep a look out for some wrestling shots later in the day. Oh, and of course, Steel Panther, Black Label Society, Baroness, Danzig with Doyle, and Megadeth.
