Rumors have been finally squashed over the weekend on Silva vs. Weidman II via ESPN SportsCenter. UFC President Dana White confirmed that the rematch between Middleweight Champion Chris Weidman and Anderson Silva is indeed set as main event for UFC 168 on December 28 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

During the announcement on ESPN White said,

“Ever since the fight got over, I don’t know if there’s ever been any more hype in UFC history after a fight, everybody’s been wondering if there’s going to be a rematch. I’ve been working on it since Thursday.”

Aditionally, the co-main event will feature another rematch between UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion Ronda Rousey and Miesha Tate. A rivalry that kicked started last year in STRIKEFORCE when Rousey took the strap from Tate on March 3, 2012.

“Dec. 28 in Las Vegas at the MGM Grand Anderson Silva will fight Chris Weidman in the rematch. Ronda Rousey vs. Miesha Tate will be the co-main event.”

Prior to UFC 162, White did say that if Silva lost the match to Weidman there would be an immediate rematch. Although Silva felt differently in the post-fight interview with Joe Rogan, White also confirmed that Silva is now fired up for the rematch and wants his belt back.

“What changed is, when Anderson Silva talked after the fight, the guy forgot what it felt like to lose, he’d never lost ever in the UFC; broke every record we ever had. I’ve been talking to him for two days. Both guys signed their bout agreement. Anderson Silva is motivated, fired up, and wants his belt back.”

More news about UFC 168 is coming up shortly.
