Like it or not, the remake of Poltergeist isn’t going to stop dead in its tracks anytime soon, even if you sign a patition against it. In fact, casting for the film has started with a number of reports coming in from various sources that MGM and FOX have selected Rosemarie DeWitt (The Watch, Mad Men) for the lead female role in Poltergeist, previously played by JoBeth Williams in the 1982 classic.
After years of trying to get the remake off the ground, things really started to take shape last month. Now, DeWitt is currently negotiating a deal to play the matriarch of the Freeling family. Nothing is official yet, and rumors suggest that an individual close to the actress said they’d be surprised if she signed on. DeWitt’s husdand, Ron Livingston, played in The Conjuring, another supernatural horror film directed by James Wan. Just maybe after watching his film she’ll be inspired enough to take up the role in the remake that will be directed by Gil Kenan from a screenplay by Pulitzer Prize-winning writer David Lindsay-Abaire.
Poltergeist is scheduled to begin production this fall.
