This past weekend I had the opportunity to view I Spit on Your Grave 2. I have no idea why I watched it, it’s just like the first movie. Essentially, the plot goes something like this: hot girl meets weirdos and is raped, kidnapped, drugged, flown to Bulgaria in a gig lock box, raped some more, tortured, and left for dead. Yeah, that’s your typical movie, right?

There were plenty of other things that made me cringe in I Spit on Your Grave 2. I don’t know about you, but i really don’t care too much about rape/torture films… especially if it’s a woman. It’s pretty much a huge turn-off. The point of these visceral and graphic films, however, is to shock the audience and to make you feel uncomfortable… and if it doesn’t, there’s something horribly fucking wrong with you.

Shock me once, shame on you. Shock me twice, shame on me. When the original 1978 Meir Zarchi I Spit on Your Grave and the 1972 Wes Craven Last House on the Left came out, they were truly shocking since it was the first time most people saw anything so powerful in its violent realism. Then the 2010 and 2009 remakes, respectively, shocked again. And it made sense to remake/update them for a new generation of moviegoers. But to actually make a sequel is retarded. What purpose does it serve to see how much further you can push the envelope? For whatever reason, this sequel formula seems to work for Saw, Hostel, and even The Human Centipede. Perhaps it’s because those films are clearly based in fantasy, but I Spit on Your Grave 2 seems more aligned with Faces of Death II.

To sum it up, as I already mentioned, this hot girl is kidnapped and raped numerous times — even by a stick taser, which left her love box bloody… eww! But it’s not over. She is then buried alive in a gig lock box in the rapist’s basement. And it’s still not over. By some twist of fate, the floor under her breaks and she falls a good 20 feet, which ultimately breaks open the box. She fell into an underground tunnel system that runs underneath the entire city. Guess what villains… she’s coming back for revenge.

She kidnaps her captors one by one and kills them off in the most gruesome manner. One dude has his two nuts squished with a bench vise, another dude drowns in a toilet of shit, and the dude that raped her with the stick taser is electrocuted in the most inhumane way. Shouldn’t have fucked with her. I don’t want to spoil every part of the movie, and I’m pretty sure I told you enough as it is.

The Verdict
Overall

If you're into watching straight-to-DVD movies, then I Spit on Your Grave 2 is for you. When directors decide to put out multiple movies with the same topic, it kind of gets repetitive. Truth is, however, that I've seen worse movies.
