Ephel Duath Brings The Sadness With “When Mind Escapes Flesh”

A lot of metal fans are looking forward to this, the first new album in five years from Italian progressive/avant-garde metal act Ephel Duath. Hemmed by Light, Shaped by Darkness is due out on November 26th in North America and November 19th in Europe.

If you head over to metalsucks.net, you can hear the latest track released from the new album, “When Mind Escapes Flesh.” It’s a slow, creeping track with a morbid story, if you’re into that. At the very least it’ll make you consider your mortality. Who knows, maybe it’ll be on your funeral playlist.

Previous tracks released from Hemmed by Light, Shaped by Darkness include “Shaped By Darkness” (lyric video above) and “Feathers Under My Skin” (embedded below), featuring a guest appearance by Erik Rutan (Cannibal Corpse, Hate Eternal). And if you want a taste of the whole album, we’ve also included the teaser video below.

Ephel Duath, formed in 1998, has always had a revolving door of members, except Davide Tiso (guitarist/songwriter) being the band’s only mainstay. Naturally, he has something to say regarding Hemmed by Light, Shaped by Darkness:

This album holds together all that Ephel Duath’s music has touched in the last 15 years, and pushes its boundaries even further. Lyrically, the new songs dig deep in higher self-subject matters, combining brutally visual imagery with a painfully honest soul searching quest.

As just mentioned, Ephel Duath has only one original member, and for this eight-track opus Tiso has solicited a unique cast of players: Marco Minnemann (Kreator, Necrophagist, Joe Satriani) on drums, Bryan Beller (Dethklok, Joe Satriani) on bass, and lead singer Karyn Crisis (Crisis, Karyn Crisis Band). That’s a lot of different metal worlds coming together for this.

Hemmed By Light, Shaped By Darkness can be pre-ordered now in Digipack CD, Double LP and Digital formats at: www.agoniarecords.com
