Southern California’s Goatsnake has just released the first wickedly kick-ass single from their anxiously awaited brand new LP, Black Age Blues, with a premiere of the album’s second track, “Elevated Man.” Check out the near psychedelic, blues-infused doom metal track with heavy NOLA leanings over at RevolverMag.com.
Goatsnake’s Black Age Blues closes a 15-year gap between full-length albums from the revered act, without a doubt making it one of the most highly anticipated doom/metal releases of 2015. With nearly 50 minutes of their most soulful yet boisterous material to date, the quartet expands their already mammoth tones and pummelingriffs with a variety of additional influences and elements, and guest contributions from a variety of players including David Pajo (Slint, Aerial M, Papa M) and soul vocal trio Dem Preacher’s Daughters, comprised of Wendy Moten, Gale Mayes, and Andrea Merrit. “Elevated Man” pumps in with a cavalcade of percussion and a riff that instantly becomes engrained in your mind for days, melding cool boogie blues rock with a monstrous doom underbelly, and a wild harmonica solo that scorches like four lead guitarists at once riding high.
Black Age Blues will be released through Southern Lord Recordings in North America on June 2nd, 2015.
A listening party for Black Age Blues has been scheduled for May 3rd in Los Angeles. The event will be held at Black, in Hollywood, and the public is invited to attend and hear the album. Members of Goatsnake will be in attendance.
Internationally planned live actions have been set in stone, with scattered festival performances and tour dates confirmed through the end of spring. The month of May sees Goatsnake performing at a special gig in Pioneertown, California (Joshua Tree area), with Mojave Lords on the 2nd, followed by a record release show for Black Age Blues in Los Angeles, with Southern Lord brethren Bl’ast and Eagle Twin on the 20th. Also in May, Goatsnake makes its maiden voyage to Maryland Deathfest in Baltimore, Maryland, on Memorial Day weekend, and a week later sees the band at Temples Festival in Bristol, England. Following Temples, the band has a string of additional European tour dates confirmed, including a Goatsnake headlining set at Siegen, Germany’s Freakvalley Festival on June 4th, and upon their return Stateside, June 20th will see the band headlining Crucialfest in Salt Lake City, Utah.
