Black Anvil, the New York-based Black Metal outfit, have today unleashed the first track from their forthcoming third-album, Hail Death. One listen of “Eventide” and you’ll be hooked, and you’ll recognize that there’s a shitload of other stuff going on besides Black Metal. Take in and enjoy all that’s on offer in the track’s six-plus minutes, but my favorite change up is just after the four-minute mark, with the Motorhead-like riffage.

Black Anvil’s Hail Death is scheduled to drop via Relapse Records in North America/UK/World on May 27, 2014, preceded by Germany/Benelux/Finland on May 24, 2014. The band called upon J. Robbins to capture their “live” sound as much as possible. Drummer Raeph Glicken stated:

We really wanted to capture our live sound on this record which is one of the reasons we went with J. Robbins. We didn’t want it to sound perfect; we wanted it to sound like us.

Bassist/vocalist Paul Delaney added:

We bring it live and I feel confident saying that. We are black metal but we also aren’t interested in doing what hundreds of bands have done before. We’re interested in doing our own thing and this album is the most self-realized expression of that to date.
