UFC 171: Condit vs. Woodley Set As Co-Main Event

Woodley vs. Condit

Initially, UFC President Dana White wanted Nick Diaz to come out of retirement to face Carlos Condit in a rematch. However, Diaz has refused the offer, once again, because he wants the winner between Johny Hendricks and Robbie Lawler, who are currently set for the welterweight title fight on March 15, 2014, at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas.

Unless you’re living on another planet, you should know that Georges St-Pierre has vacated the strap last Friday. Apparently, he needs a break to spend more time with family and sort out his personal life. So, at UFC 171, a new welterweight champion will walk away with the UFC strap.

As of today, news broke via the UFC’s official Twitter page that welterweight prospect Tyron Woodley will be stepping inside the Octagon very soon to face Condit as the co-main event at UFC 171. Just keep in mind that the UFC is still working out the fight card, and the lineup isn’t official yet. But, thanks to his tweet, we know for sure that Woodley is thrilled to once again fight an MMA veteran:

[Cried] tears of joy when I read this. BUT GOD!

Woodley recently dethroned Josh Koscheck at UFC 167 by knockout in the very first round, which earned him an extra $50,000 in his pocket because the UFC awarded him his first Knockout of the Night bonus.

Condit dominated Martin Kampmann after the second round in a rematch on August 28, 2013, at UFC Fight Night 27. He was able to throw more strikes in the bout than Kampmann, eventually winning by TKO in the fourth via a series of punches and knees. Condit avenged his first UFC loss to Kampmann, and earned his third consecutive Fight of the Night bonus award.

Expect Condit vs. Woodley to be as exciting as the main event at UFC 171.
