Jon Fitch vs. Marcelo Alfaya Added To WSOF 6 Fight Card

Jon Fitch

Despite still being ranked a top 10 welterweight contender in the world, some people, including UFC President Dana White, believe Jon Fitch (24-6-1) is getting close to the end of his MMA career. He was released by the UFC after loosing to Demian Maia at UFC 156, and arguably because he didn’t meet the general “skill-demand” of the company. Following his release, Fitch was looking to make a strong statement to prove that he’s still one of the best in the division after signing a four-fight contract with the World Series of Fighting in March.

However, in his promotional debut against Josh Burkman (26-9), he suffered another loss in 41 seconds, which also marked his first losing streak of his career. Fitch now needs a strong win to set him back on track, and he gets another chance to do so next month. WSOF Executive Vice President Ali Abdel-Aziz confirmed with MMA Fighting that Fitch will meet Marcelo Alfaya on the October 26th fight card in Florida. Both have also verbally agreed to a 170-pound fight, according to Abdel-Aziz.

In the main event for WSOF 6, Burkman meets Steve Carl (20-3) with the inaugural World Series of Fighting welterweight title on the line. Abdel-Aziz previously stated the following about the matchup:

We’ve been looking forward to making our debut in Florida for some time now, and I’m proud to say we will be in Coral Gables on October 26th. Our headliner will see us award either Josh Burkman or Steve Carl the first championship belt in our promotion’s history, and I think that matchup will be something special. The whole lineup we’re planning will be fantastic, and I look forward to making more announcements very soon.

The WSOF 6 main card begins at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. on NBCSN.
