Terminator 5 is still on hold, no actors have been cast (though Arnold Schwarzenegger is rumored), and no has been hired, but things are finally looking up for legendary franchise. How?
As we know, Megan Ellison (True Grit, Killing Them Softly, Zero Dark Thirty) bought the rights years ago, and her production company, Annapurna Pictures, has found a partner in her brother, David Ellison, and his company, Skydance Productions. Skydance is also known as an action and sci-fi house that produces hits: True Grit, Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol, G.I. Joe: Retaliation, Star Trek Into Darkness, World War Z.
It’s also been recently revealed that the Ellisons have hired a duo to pen the script: Laeta Kalogridis (Night Watch, Pathfinder, Shutter Island) and Patrick Lussier (Dracula 2000, Drive Angryy). Granted, these scribes have often been hit or miss, but they’ve also been superbly successful. But being hit or miss on Terminator 5 isn’t something you want to be. The franchise is on its last leg, and if there’s going to be any salvation with it, Terminator 5 has to kill it in terms of story.
Let’s hope that Megan Ellison can deliver on that promise she made, the one about Terminator 5 having an R rating. Having these writers is a good way to start making good on that promise, but we’ll have to wait awhile before we can confirm.
