God or not, there’s no denying that Mike Patton is a musical genius. And it’s with a colossal “fuck yeah!” at the news that there’s new material from Tomahawk to devour. Currently, Brooklyn Vegan is streaming the first track, “Oddfellows,” from the forthcoming album of the same name. Next week, January 22, Spin will stream the entire album beside an interview with all four band members (Duane Denison, Trevor Dunn, Mike Patton and John Stanier).
Yeah, I got a hard-on too.
Tomahawk recorded Oddfellows in just six short days at Easy Eye Sound Studios in Nashville, Tennessee, which is a rate that might indicate that the band had plenty of time to rehearse the material in the six years since its previous release. Collin Dupuis (The Black Keys) co-produced the album and cartoonist Ivan Brunetti can be credited for Oddfellows‘ cover art.
The title track has a slow grove that’s less eclectic than Mr. Bungle material. Rather, it’s much more accessible, much like the stuff on Faith No More’s Angel Dust, or maybe Album of the Year.
Tomahawk will release Oddfellows on January 29, 2013, via Ipecac Recordings.
Tomahawk return to the road on February 12, kicking off a West Coast tour at The Showbox in Seattle. The band join the touring Soundwave Festival in Australia on February 23.
