Pride and Prejudice and Zombies has had nothing but trouble in its attempts to appear on the big screen. While Natalie Portman as producer has been the only consistent thing about the potential film, it’s already had casting and directorial changes, in addition to being shelved as an idea.

It’s back to the front now, and Lily Collins (yes, that’s Phil Collins’ daughter – she’s 24, so you don’t have to feel guilty for having those thoughts) has been cast to star. Collins is an up-and-coming actress who’s already had roles in such films as Priest; Abduction; and Mirror, Mirror. Although she has a number of other roles under her belt that aren’t genre related, let’s hope she keeps a toe in the pool.

The news of Collins getting on board, in addition to Burr Steers being attached to Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, spells good news for the film adaptation of Seth Grahame-Smith’s book.

Winter won’t ever be over until Norwegian director Tommy Wirkola says it is, or at least until his sequel to Dead Snow gets an official release date. We’re hoping the Dead Snow sequel will be available very soon because we dig his first zomedy so much. In fact, if you’re a fan of the original Evil Dead series, especially Evil Dead 2, then most likely you’re a fan of this new franchise.

I’m saying this is a franchise already because I’m pretty sure we can expect a Dead Snow 3 in the future, if the second installment is another hit, of course.

But before we get too ahead of ourselves, we should just focus on Dead Snow 2 entitled, Dead Snow: War Of The Dead, and the first pics from the film. The gallery above proves that Wirkola is working on it, and that filming is currently underway.

Check them out!

About Dead Snow: War Of The Dead

In the sequel, the story follows the sole survivor of a Nazi zombie attack who battles an even larger army of Zombies with the help of a professional gang of American zombie killers who call themselves the Zombie Squad.

We here at Yell! Magazine are fond of disposable objects. We love things that can be used and then haphazardly thrown away with little to no care in the world. Like used tissues or interns. Or my sanity. The Evil Tormenting Bosses used it as a doormat for a few days, and then sent it off to the dry cleaners. I haven’t seen the damn thing since. I’ve got the ticket stub for the Laundromat and everything, but when I tried to claim it they handed me a pink tutu.

Be honest, does this make my underarms look flabby?

Luckily for us Yellers, video games have been providing gamers with countless disposable bad guys for decades. You know who they are: the rank-and-file, the cannon-fodder, the minimum-wage underlings, the palette swaps, the ninjas…

Or the palette swap ninja!

These are the generic video game bad guys you dispatch by the hundreds on your way to more meaningful encounters. You jump on their heads, one-shot kill most of them by breathing hard in their general direction or murder a bunch using only harsh language and naked pictures of Bette Midler. These are the M&Ms of the video game world: you can’t stop at just one. Join me, your faithful tutu-wearing reviewer, as we recap The Top 10 Generic Video Game Bad Guys!

No.10 Goombas, Super Mario Bros.

Many gamers of my generation have fond memories of squishing their first Goomba in the original Super Mario Bros for the legendary NES. Designed not to tax the reflexes or mental faculties of players too much, this easily dispatched bipedal creature was the forerunner of generic video game bad guys to come. If you don’t immediately recognize the following screenshot as world 1-1 of the aforementioned game, I hereby rip up your membership card to the Brotherhood Of Video Game Geeks and sentence you to summary pantsing.

The Goomba pictured above would go on to a long career of epic battles against Mario… well, that’s not quite right. The Goomba went on to negligibly hinder Mario’s progress by sticking to the soles of his shoes, forcing the plumber to delay his quest for Princess Peach for a few seconds while he scraped off the Goomba’s remains on the sidewalk. Meanwhile, Mario went on to endure the world’s longest passive/aggressive romance, finding himself in a loveless relationship with a Princess of dubious nobility who goes running off to her abusive Koopa boyfriend whenever her plumber lover gets too needy. What? Tell me I’m wrong!

No.9 The Entire Cast, Smash TV

If there’s one game on this list that deserves to be the poster child for droves of generic video game bad guys rushing to meet their doom, arcade hit Smash TV would brush all other competition aside. Here is a game where the screen gets so crowded with enemies that figuring out which tiny collection of pixels you’re controlling becomes a chore. Ported to every console available on the market in the early 1990s, Smash TV‘s unique brand of Running Man-style reality show combined with rampant slaughter of herds of soulless drones made it an addictive hit. Mario might squish the occasional Goomba on his way to the castle, but the Smash TV dudes easily surpass the plumber’s lifetime kill count with a single pull of the trigger. There’s enough motion on screen at any given time in Smash TV that your eyes will soon develop bulbous, muscular veins from all the back and forth they’ll be doing. And speaking of bulbous, here’s some early ’90s titillation!

It was 1990, man! This was all we had! Al Gore hadn’t invented the Internet yet!

No.8 Stormtroopers, Any Game With “Star” And “Wars” In The Title

Everybody and their mother (if your mother is any kind of cool) knows that Imperial Stormtroopers, despite questionable claims from retired Jedis regarding the preciseness of their shots, can’t aim for shit. Which probably makes peeing an exercise in frustration.

“Aw, God damnit!”

Luckily, Stormtroopers make up for what they lack in aim with sheer, insurmountable numbers. Unless they’re up against Ewoks, in which case they’re easily surpassed. These Imperial cannon fodder troops have been making appearance in Star Wars games as long as there have been Star Wars games. Usually, they show up as the bottom rung of the Imperial bad guy ladder, just thrown at the player by the dozen so they can soak up a blaster shot or two before… oh who am I kidding? Or two? Please, they go down in one shot. I don’t know who designed Stromtrooper armor, but I have a sneaking suspicion he might be rebel scum.

Oh sure, Stromtroopers come in many varieties and some of the higher ranks might have jetpacks, heavy armor, missiles launchers and whatnot, but let’s face it: the standard, white-armored variety is designed to be expendable and cheaper by the dozen. Vader probably gets like a 25% discount for ordering in bulk. Plus, they’re none too bright.

No.7 Ninjas, Tons of Games, Sometimes You Don’t Even See Them

Ninjas are awesome. It’s a scientific fact backed by science and a whole bunch of statistics I just made up. Nine out of ten fictional scientists in my head agree that you can use statistics to prove anything. Unfortunately, Ninjas are often victim of the less-is-more causality equation in relation to their lethality. I’m talking in sexy, science speak because chicks dig guys with brains. Anyway, the equation goes like this: 1 ninja = badass, 100 ninjas = 100 soon-to-be-dead ninjas. Ryu Hayabusa, from the Ninja Gaiden series, is an overwhelmingly powerful opponent who regularly goes up against his own kind. So why is it that hundreds of similarly trained foes can’t seem to defeat him? Hell, Wolverine kills 57 ninjas on his way to work every morning!

So why is it that individual ninjas fare much better than their ganged up counterparts? I have another theory because my brain is bustling with science stuff and exotic narcotics! You know those video game moments where your character is suddenly rushed by about 100 ninjas? I believe that 99 of those dudes have no idea what they’re doing. They’re just handed a katana and told to go out there and kill stuff, quite possibly told lies about how they’ve been handed a sword of invincibility or ninja sandals of fleetness or something. But ninjas are all about tricks and deception! You see, these 99 doomed idiots are just cover for the one guy who knows what he’s doing hidden in the middle of the group. Their job is to get him to the target by swamping the hero in dead bodies. It’s the only thing that makes sense!

Also known as the Dynasty Warriors tactic.

No.6 Terrorists, Any FPS Of The Last 10 Years

If you’ve played any first-person shooter released in the last decade or so, odds are you’ve gone up against some foreign devils intent on ravishing our American women and destroying our American way of life and stealing our American cable. Yes, franchises like the Rainbow Six series might feature terrorists of the homegrown variety but, let’s face it, most shooters aren’t exactly politically correct and usually have you going up against villains that have the word Jihad in their vocabulary. The kind of people that enjoy lighting burrito-toughened farts in the general direction of America.

I blame Taco Bell for all this chaos.

Luckily, since entering the modern age of shooters, our valiant servicemen/anti-terrorism special ops groups (insert random FPS cliché here) have been blessed with the only weapon one needs to achieve victory in the global war on terror: the rebounding health meter. Yes, that grenade indicator you totally missed may have blown you into a red smear on the wall, but walk it off, son, walk it off. A few recent shooters (Homefront) have tried to shift the focus to conflicts against foreign armies, but I doubt the industry will ever outgrow its penchant for focusing on wave after wave of AK-47 wielding bad guys of undetermined, Middle-Eastern origin.

Find out who ranks Number 1 as the ultimate generic video bad guy after the jump…

Top 10 Generic Video Game Bad Guys!

The clip is titled “Didn’t Mean to Scare You,” but there’s nothing scary about it. In fact, it’s pretty relaxed. I imagine, however, that this “let’s get to know each other a little” clip follows some action sequences that bring the cast together.

Again, as I stated before, State of Emergency seems to show the genesis of the zombie outbreak, and in this clip we get a flashback to the first day of zombie discovery. It looks like this is going to be a fun movie, and for all of us fans of The Walking Dead looking for a zombie fix should do well to see this on its April 16th release.

Hey look! The main cast of Amazon’s original Zombieland series is officially assembled, and fully armed to the teeth for an epic journey to kick some zombie ass in this new poster reveal.

Does this look insane or what? Warning to all zombies roaming the earth, this gung-ho tribe is coming soon to clear you out.

Although, still no word yet on when the FREE pilot will be out to Amazon customers, which is the seventh comedy pilot added to Amazon’s pilot line-up. But it sounds like a lot of effort is going into the Zombieland series, currently in production, with the intention to make it appeal to the most diverse zombie fan out there, including anyone who loves AMC’s The Walking Dead. So far we can’t tell if the production quality will be as good as TWD, however, the core of the Zombieland film will be packed into the series.

“Zombieland will strive to break the rules—action, adventure, thrills, chills and laughs and all packed into a half hour format, said creator Paul Wernick. “This is not your average show but Amazon is not your average network.”

If the pilot goes well with customers, expect Amazon Studios to turn Zombieland into a full-season production, to air on Prime Instant Video.

Tallahassee will be played by Kirk Ward (The Island), Maiara Walsh (Desperate Housewives, Switched at Birth) is cast as Wichita, Tyler Ross (Milkshake) will play Columbus, and Izabela Vidovic has the role of Little Rock.

Today, Amazon officially confirmed that the Zombieland pilot is already in production for Prime Instant, which is the seventh comedy pilot added to Amazon’s pilot line-up. According to the press release, the pilot will be available for FREE to Amazon customers and LOVEFiLM UK. However, the full-season production, to be aired on Instant, will be determined by the help of customer reviews and feedback on Amazon.

“Zombieland is a fan favorite and we can’t wait to see where this story line goes in a serialized format,” said Roy Price, Director of Amazon Studios. “We’ve been announcing a lot of exciting exclusive content for Prime Instant Video, like Downton Abbey, Under the Dome, and Justified, and we think adding original shows to that lineup is going to make Prime even more enticing for customers.”

So this clearly means if the Zombieland pilot isn’t a hit and reviews are negative, there’s a good chance the series won’t be developed by Amazon Studios. A date hasn’t been announced yet for the release of the pilot, but will be sure to keep you in the loop here on Yell! Magazine.

Stay tuned!

[VIDEO]">World War Z, an upcoming apocalyptic horror film that features a global zombie pandemic with all the bells and whistles of a Hollywood production.

Considering Pitt is the star, you pretty much can’t get a zombie film more mainstream than that. But will a pretty face and over-budget special effects be enough to compete with the novel of the same name by Max Brooks?

Most likely not since Hollywood generally likes to fuck things up. Some fans are already hating on the film because they feel “it has no connection” with the novel whatsoever. Maybe they’re judging the film too fast, but with Hollywood’s known reputation, it’s hard to not consider their opinions. Aside from what the fans of the book think, I personally will still give the film a shot with an open mind of course. Look at it this way, If you enjoyed some of the Resident Evil films, then I can’t really see World War Z be any worse.

The film is directed by Marc Forster (Quantum of Solace) and is slated for June 21, 2013 in 2D and RealD 3D.

More about World War Z

World War Z tells the story of the world’s desperate battle against the zombie threat with a series of first-person accounts ‘as told to the author’ by various characters around the world. A Chinese doctor encounters one of the earliest zombie cases at a time when the Chinese government is ruthlessly suppressing any information about the outbreak that will soon spread across the globe. The tale then follows the outbreak via testimony of smugglers, intelligence officials, military personnel and many others who struggle to defeat the zombie menace.

You do get to see the beginning in the trailer for zombie epic State of Emergency, directed by Turner Clay (Interception) and starring Jay Hayden (A Warrior’s Heart), Tori White (Silent Night), and Andy Stahl (The Blind Side).

While the trailer makes it clear that the film barrows from many classics in the zombie genre, it still looks terrifying and compelling, and the camera work looks incredible.

State of Emergency synopsis:

After an explosion unleashes the contents of a military bio-weapons plant, the unsuspecting populace of Montgomery County is transformed into a roaming army of flesh-eating zombies. Trapped in the quarantine zone, Jim finds himself cut off, confused and fighting for his own survival. Contacted by a small band of others unaffected by the toxins, Jim sets out to reach their besieged warehouse. Becoming the survival group’s de-facto leader, he struggles to keep order as they hunker down, fortify their stronghold, and arm themselves against the attacking mutants. Fragmentary radio reports from outside hint at a last-ditch government rescue plan.

But can the survivors hold out until help arrives… or will they succumb to the living hell of an undead apocalypse? Will anybody survive?

Image Entertainment will make State of Emergency available on DVD and digital download on April 16, 2013. Special features include two behind-the-scenes featurettes on the making of the movie and its visual effects, and deleted scenes.

But how about a movie about the resistance, Nazis, black magic, and viking zombies. Oh yeah! That shit sounds out-of-this-fucking-world mind blowing.

The Rise of Valhalla is brought to us by Boredom Production, and the minds of Daniel Konze and Torben Zimmermann. I wish I could read the film’s German-language Facebook page so I could tell you more, but since I’m a moron, I’ll ask you to follow the link. I was able, however, to see that the film takes place in Germany, 1945.

It’s a bizarre and bloody tale before the crucifixion of Christ with tons of gory special effects that will please your hunger for blood. When we only thought zombie-themed films are over played nowadays, this little 15-minute gem simply buries that notion a few feet underground. I guess we can live with anything that’s as creative and fun as Fist of Jesus because Christ and Judas kick zombie ass with smelly fish, a cross, and, of course, the fist of Jesus. Even if you think you had enough of zombies, for once out of the entire pile of shit, this is a must-see. Just keep in mind you will need to deal with subtitles because the short is in Spanish.

Fist of Jesus was directed by Adrián Cardona and David Muñoz, and stars Marc Velasco as Jesus, Noé Blancafort as Judas, Salvador Llós as Jacob, and José María Angorilla as Cowboy zombie boss.

The crew currently needs your help to turn this short into a full-fledged feature film titled Once Upon a Time in Jerusalem. So if you like this short, head over to the official website for more details on how you can make this happen for them. Just so you know, a little change can make a big difference.
