Holy. Fucking. Shit. That’s all that needs to be said of the new Arch Enemy song, “Yesterday is Dead and Gone.” And that’s only after the first minute of listening to it. The intro hits you with a steady beat and guitars going off like police sirens on a high speed chase. Then you get a subtle screaming call to arms from Angela Gassow. Before the minute is out it feels like Daniel Erlandsson (drums) is using your face for a boxers speed bag and you get a mini scale solo that sounds like prog rock. Gassow also introduces you to one of the vocal melodies, but the best melody in “Yesterday is Dead and Gone” is in the Euro guitar solo just after the minute mark (it gets repeated a few more times throughout the track.
But this isn’t news to you if you’re an Arch Enemy fan, as you’re eagerly anticipating the release of the new album, Khaos Legions, which doesn’t hit any goddamn shelves until May 30th in Europe and June 7th in North America. Fans have likely already downloaded the MP3 that was available on CenturyMedia.com, but we found some sounds on YouTube for you to check out.
Of the track, Angela Gassow had this to say: “‘Yesterday is Dead and Gone’ is a very ARCH ENEMY-esque opener for Khaos Legions. Relentless, intricate, brutal yet tasteful and in your face – Heed our war cry! This is reckoning day… The Khaos Legions are unleashed! Enjoy!”
