Rory MacDonald Secures A Welterweight Title Shot In Canada

Rory MacDonald

Canadian born mixed martial artist, Rory MacDonald (18-2), has cemented himself a title shot after his dominant win over former STRIKEFORCE champion Tarec Saffiedine. His chance at bringing back the welterweight gold to Canada is now only one fight away after years of being in the shadow of long-time Tristar Gym partner, Georges St-Pierre.

On Wednesday, UFC President Dana White confirmed that MacDonald is guaranteed to get the winner of the Hendricks-Lawler rematch at UFC 181, which takes place on December 6. In addition of being next in line for a title shot, White also confirmed his five-round title fight will take place somewhere in Canada.

[The title fight] absolutely, positively, without a doubt, be in Canada, He’s next in line and that fight will be in Canada.

However, a venue for the title fight has not been announced yet. But we can already assume it could take place in Toronto or at the Bell Center in Montreal, Quebec.

As soon as the UFC makes an official announcement, we’ll be sure to update you here on Yell! Magazine.
