The Ocean Make Public “Bathyalpelagic III: Disequillibrated” Video Excerpt (NSFW)

Germany’s The Ocean released their most recent album, Pelagial, back in April of this year. Now they’re making available excerpts from their Pelagial DVD, which also serves as the backdrop to their live performances. The latest scene to be made available for your viewing pleasure, “Bathyalpelagic III: Disequillibrated,” is stunningly beautiful, artistic, and nightmarishly gripping — all while finding a way to somehow be erotic.

The Pelagial DVD is a concept film (what else would you expect to accompany this concept album?) by Craig Murray. The film took a year to produce and visually delivers the concepts that the album presents, that being a journey into the depths. Guitarist Robin Staps explains:

The album concept follows two separate but related strains: One is the obvious journey from the surface towards the depths of the sea, crossing the five Pelagial depth zones. The second one is loosely based on Andrey Tarkowsky’s movie Stalker, which is also a journey through zones, but an inward journey, form the surface into the depths of the human psyche, towards the origins of our wishes and desires. This is the central theme that the lyrics of the album are orbiting around. The Pelagial movie takes up themes from and makes reference to both of these conceptual strains, and fuses them together, in an abstract, artistic way.

Craig Murray has worked with Nine Inch Nails, Converge, and others.

Buy The Ocean’s Pelagial: CD or MP3

The Pelagial DVD comes in 5.1 Dolby surround and is only available in the limited-edition acrylic box set format, which includes the CD digipak or two vinyl gatefolds. While the vinyl box sets sold out days after pre-orders were made available, a second edition will be released in December. If vinyls don’t interest you, the CD box sets are still available at: www.pelagic-records.com

The Ocean is currently on tour promoting Pelagial. Check out the remaining dates at: www.facebook.com/theoceancollective
