This past Thursday, Bellator took place at the USF Sun Dome in Tampa, Florida, and as usual, was broadcasted live on Spike TV.
Fans and ticket holders got to witness another spectacular night filled with power punches, which resulted with a few fighters getting knocked out. Aside from KO’s, Emanuel Newton defeated Mikhail Zayats via unanimous decision in the Bellator Season 8 Light Heavyweight Tournament, and will now face the champion Attila Vegh at an undetermined date later this year.
In the lightweight finals, David Rickels dropped Saad Awad with a right hand at the very end of round two, but Awad remained resting on his back instead of getting up to his corner, resulting in the referee declaring an end to the match. This mistake costed Awad a shot at the title, and on record lost via TKO due to a highly controversial finish. Rickels will now face the Lightweight champion at a later date.
