Father Murphy Bring Their Occult Ritual To North America

OK, this isn’t exactly heavy metal, but it is dark, terrifying, and totally suitable to be the soundtrack to some satanic/devil worship flick involving witches drinking the blood of goats.

Father Murphy is an Italian “avant occult” duo that plays I don’t know what, but it is compelling, and I believe should only be ingested in small, infrequent amounts. Too much, too often could result in lost sanity. With that warning in place, check out the 30-minute live performance of Father Murphy playing The Bancroft on May 25th, in the player above.

At any rate, the band is currently touring North America in support of their latest EP, Pain Is on Our Side (see below for the list of dates). A concept album that centers itself on failure, Pain Is On Our Side Now boasts four chilling tracks of eroticism, decadence, and emotional/physical decay, each playable on their own merit but with the additional option of synchronized playback for tracks one and three, or two and four, conjoining into two new sonic excursions Aquarius Records christened, “…woozy and ominous, dreamy and dense, a glorious deathlike dirge…”

About Father Murphy:

Spawned near Venice and boasting three albums and a plethora of EPs and limited releases, the grim duo – Rev. Freddie Murphy (vocals, guitar) and Chiara Lee (vocals, keyboards, percussions) – has, over the years, shapeshifted into one of Italy’s most mysterious and enigmatic musical exports, part of the community that esteemed music critic, Simon Reynolds, dubbed the new “Italian occult psychedelia.” Evolving from twisted psychedelic pop into a far darker sonic exploration, Father Murphy manifests foreboding songs that crawl and twist and hiss like that old biblical serpent; their off-kilter, traumatic creations not only earning the critical accolades of media both stateside and abroad but winning over the adoration of Julian Cope, Carla Bozulich, Deerhoof, Michael Gira and so many others. It’s only when you reach the bottom that you feel you can still dig…
