Cocoa Blush is a London-based alternative model who’s a bit of everything when it comes to style. A chameleon of sorts, she let’s her mood when she wakes up decide how the world will see her. What we see, all the time, however, is a gorgeous tattoo model who sports a killer beanie. As with a lot of heavily tattooed models, her canvas is far from complete and she’s anxious to get busy in the next year. Find out what her tattoo plans are and what she’s doing to keep you wanting more in 2014, in our interview by Danailya Reese.
When did you start modeling and what was it that made you want to do it?
I started modelling in 2010, mainly to build up my confidence. I didn’t think it would get this crazy, but I love it.
What drew you into the alternative scene and what inspires you to this day?
I started to lean into the alt scene purely because it promotes self-expression, which is something I lacked. So when I started to find myself, I became inspired by this particular genre.
What is your favorite genre of fashion? Why?
I have no particular genre. I change my style all the time. I like urban, I guess if I had to pick one, but I change a lot.
How would you describe your style?
Again I don’t really have a style, [but] I love accessories snapbacks, beanies, funky jewelry… anything goes with me. I wake up and my mood decides.
What do you consider the worst fashion faux pas?
Dirty trainers. If they don’t look fresh, it’s a crime in my book!
Tell me a bit about some of your tattoos. Are any of them more significant than others?
My side piece represents a poem of closure that I wrote years ago, it will be revealed in a song in the future. Very deep and meaningful. I also have random bits that I simply just like.
How old were you when you got your first tattoo?
I was 19, so I have some catching up to do! (laughs)
What’s your next piece of ink going to be?
I’m getting my cat’s face in a heart frame, [in the] neo-traditional style, on my calf and starting my sleeve.
What advice would you give someone wanting to follow in your footsteps?
Work hard, always be yourself, know yourself and your body, and respect it at all times. Be fair, but ultimately enjoy.
Tell me about some of your publications/credits.
I’ve been in Nuts advertising, R.T.H clothing, been on many fliers and posters promoting clothing and tattoos, and untold online mags.
What is the best place you have traveled to model?
Ibiza was the best place, but I’m looking forward to L.A and Vegas later this year. That will be awesome.
Who is on your short list in terms of photographers, designers, etc. that you would like to work with?
Photographers [include] Andy Slivers, Billy Bilacious, and Scott Cole. Designers [include] Dead Lotus Couture, and many others, like LOADS!
Do you have any big plans for 2014?
Yes. As well as branching out in my modeling I am working on music and learning pole dance, so expect some cool entertainment in the future.
Do you have any go-to artists you want to shout out to?
Evolution in Canterbury is an awesome tattoo studio and also Jayne Doe in London.
