Terminator: Genesis, aka, Terminator 5, continues to move full steam ahead with the aim to release the first installment of a new trilogy on July 1, 2015.
So far, casting has really seemed to have come together over the last few months. According to sources, a new character will be introduced in Genesis, and J.K. Simmons is currently in negotiations to play the role. If Simmons agrees with the terms and signs the contract, then he is expected to play a “weary and alcoholic” detective who has been following a strange case for decades. The case is said to involve protagonist Sarah Connor. Unfortunately, no other details have been revealed about the character.
Simmons could potentially sign on for the role in a matter of days since his profile seems to be a good fit for the role. In the past, he appeared in Law & Order, played the loud-mouthed newspaper editor in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man franchise, and a CIA superior in Burn After Reading. In my opinion, it’s a win-win situation for everyone involved if he jumps on board with the project.
Terminator: Genesis is in pre-production, and Alan Taylor (Thor: The Dark World) is directing it.
