Pierce the Veil is so far removed from what I normally find acceptable that it lives on another planet. However, the post-hardcore/metalcore San Diego-based band has won over some of my better senses with their latest video for “Bulls in the Bronx.”

What senses might those be? Well, when I’m not watching horror, sci-fi, action, or snuff, I have an appreciation for John Hughes-type of films. The sunny and perfectly manicured neighborhood and the clean-cut kids (even when slutting it up) in “Bulls in the Bronx” taps into the ’80s teen romance genre, which is always nice to get nostalgic about. As such, the video also has a theme, which is always better than shots of the band playing their instruments.

The second element of “Bulls in the Bronx” that I like has more to do with the song (shocker) than it does with the video (although the director, Drew Russ, was smart enough to incorporate it into the video). What I’m yammering on about is the song’s bridge, featuring a Spanish-inspired breakdown. This shows us that Pierce the Veil has a sense for songwriting in their post-hardcore subgenre that wasn’t generally as well developed in the hardcore subgenre.

“I really wanted to have a story people could relate to, as well as have a fun supernatural element to fit the bridge of the song,” Russ recently told MTV.com. “To me, this is such a standout song, and when the bridge hits, it almost transports the listener to another place. I really wanted to represent that on camera.”

The video for “Bulls In The Bronx” is the band’s third video from their widely popular album, Collide With The Sky, which has sold over 100,000 copies since release. Previous videos include “Hell Above” and “King for a Day,” which was also directed by Russ.

Excuse me now, while I go kill myself.

Recently, the band has revealed Bú-Tik‘s album cover and, today, the first single, “Next Republic.” And let’s not forget that Rhythm Crusher app from some time ago.

It’s a great track with everything you’d expect from Chthonic: traditional-sounding incantation, frenetic riffage, tight song structure, chanting, and a message you can’t understand. It’s also apparent that expenses were put into its production.

The Melvins are putting out an album of covers, titled Everybody Loves Sausages, and they’ve just started streaming “You’re My Best Friend,” originally by Queen. Queen is legendary, and despite my predilection toward metal, they’ve always been among my favorite bands.

Stream The Melvins’ cover of “You’re My Best Friend” at noisey.vice.com.

Before settling in to have a listen to The Melvins do this song, I was tepid; most Queen covers fail miserably, mostly because vocalists just can’t compete with the late Freddie Mercury. It’s usually best when they don’t, as Puscifer did on “Bohemian Rhapsody.” But the vocals on The Melvins’ cover, which features Caleb Benjamin of Tweak Bird, are great. The track also features the full Melvins lineup: Dale Crover, Buzz Osborne, Coady Willis, and Jarred Warren.

The Melvins didn’t go all-out gaming mode with “You’re My Best Friend,” but there is a distinctive 8-bit element to the track. I don’t think everyone will like it, but there is a certain appeal to it. At least it’s an original take on a mostly straight cover of a classic tune.

Everybody Loves Sausages is set for an April 30th release date via Ipecac. The 13-track album features guests Mark Arm, Jello Biafra, JG Thirlwell, and Scott Kelly on a wide variety of songs including Venom’s “Warhead,” Roxy Music’s “In Every Dream Home A Heartache,” and The Scientists’ “Set It On Fire.”

The complete track listing with original artist and guest player notation:
1. Warhead (Venom; Guest: Scott Kelly of Neurosis)
2. You’re My Best Friend (Queen; Guest: Caleb Benjamin of Tweak Bird)
3. Black Betty (Ram Jam)
4. Set It On Fire (The Scientists; Guest: Mark Arm)
5. Station To Station (David Bowie; Guest: JG Thirlwell)
12. Art School (The Jam; Guest: Tom Hazelmeyer)

This is the band’s 11th full-length studio album, which has been in the works since August of last year, and just over a month ago it was announced that Circle is slated for April 19th in Europe and April 30th in North America.

Pekka Kainulainen once again wrote the lyrics for Circle, and the summary of the concept/story of the album can be read right below:

“The protagonist has been dealt a bad hand at birth. He’s always felt himself an outsider with strong potential to become marginalized. Through an accident, after a crisis, he finds a connection with his inner powers. A guide is sent to him, from some other time and place. He gets a chance to take hold of his own life and change his destiny. From the past of Carelian, Finland, he finds his own spiritual tribe and the power to turn the course of his doomed life. This is a story of survival.”

Frontman, Tomi Joutsen, said the following about the album’s title:

“Circle represents integrity. Back in the days, when there was something special to talk about, wise men used to sit in circle. Not everyone was invited to join them. But in this story, the protagonist was invited among the wise men’s circle.”

Check it out, and don’t forget to leave your thoughts about “Hopeless Days” in the comments section below.

A new lyric video for the track “No Lungs To Breathe,” which was made by the band’s guitarist Nick Hipa, is now live in conjunction with the As I Lay Dying‘s North American tour with The Devil Wears Prada, which kicked off this passed Friday (2/22) in Ventura, California, at the Ventura Theater. See As I Lay Dying tour dates below.

As I Lay Dying preceded the release of their sixth full-length studio album, Awakened, with a highly successful run on 2012′s Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival where the band rotated between the side and main stages. Just before Awakened dropped via Metal Blade Records on September 25th, the band released their first production video for the album for the track “A Greater Foundation.” Fans instantly took to the Internet to express their love of the new song and to discuss the relevance of the lyrics.

Any video that begins with a disclaimer that states “The following video contains violence…” is something that we’re going to get excited about. And “Premeditated” comes with violence, bloody violence. It’s a torture type of violence that starts out with body parts being hacked up and tossed into a bucket. Then we get a man, lead singer Landon Tewers, strapped in a chair with a towel over his head (no waterboarding in this video, sorry), waiting to have extreme pain inflicted upon him. Fingers being cut off with dirty instruments, torso cutting, scalps being hacked into, etc. Yeah, it’s a bloody mess.

The song is about getting revenge on a rapist, which is something we can get behind. I mean, we would all (hopefully) feel inclined to exact revenge on a perpetrator if they harmed one of our loved ones. Whether we would act on our feelings or not is an entirely different topic.

Good on The Plot In You for bringing this to everyone’s attention. So, I have to ask you, Yellers, is physically harming someone for the purposes of revenge ever justified? Leave your comments below.

The other day we brought you our review of Puscifer‘s latest EP release, Donkey Punch the Night, and today we’re happy to introduce you to their video for the cover of Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody.”

The video was directed by Mike King and stars Maynard James Keenan and the tripped-out, lipstick-plastered comedian Dina Martina. The video clearly pays respect to Queen and also includes vintage movie clips. It’s an odd piece that looks like it walked off the set of MTV’s Liquid Television. It’ll make you feel uncomfortable, and it’ll make you laugh (air guitar on a spatula, massive camel toe).

Check it out and let us know what you think.

Bad Religion released their latest effort, True North, last month and they’ve finally made the video for the title track available. The video features a boy in his room, which is adorned with posters of punk legends like Youth of Today, Circle Jerks, T.S.O.L., Dead Kennedys, Descendents, and more. In a way, the video reminds me of a video from The Replacements, “Bastards of Young.”

I like the video for “True North” and what it’s trying to do, as guitarist and songwriter Brett Gurewitz offers,

“True North in many ways is Bad Religion getting back to where we’re from. The video tries to capture what that looked like for us and a thousand other kids; maybe even some kids today.”

What I don’t like is the “punk” kid looks like a mall punk and also a bit too much like Justin Beiber. But, I can’t fault the video for that.

Bad Religion will be heading out on tour to perform in support of their new album True North starting this March.

The Death grinders and goremasters known as Aborted released a new video last week for the track “Expurgation Euphoria.” The video, which is ultimately a short film, dives head first into the ugly and torturous horrors of detoxing. As such, the video seems to match the song’s title as a euphoric state of purging or cleansing, but the lyrics (included below) seem to say something different; they seem to say that the song’s drug user will use until the end, when he dies from it. Unless, the lyrics are saying that even after getting clean you’ll always want a fix.

It’s a graphic video, one that has a censored version (included above because the censor tag is a bit humorous) and an uncut version (below). I get that we don’t want to teach children how to use drug paraphernalia, but is cooking a spoon really more censor-worthy than someone tearing their flesh off?

Fresh off their European trek with Vader, Aborted has now announced a Japanese tour with System Divide, Devour the Martyr, and Empire. See below for all upcoming tour dates:

“Expurgation Euphoria” lyrics:
“As time passes by you inhale your last breath
With every shot you march one step closer to your death
Just a leprous mongrel digging his own grave
And paving his way through a pile of misery
Atrocity of man, symbol of decay
Intricate solution, sepsis sets in

With every shot and every high your end seeps in
The euphoria you seek marks your atrophy
Iodine reaps and marks your destiny
With an artificial high your skin bleaks,
Insert the needle, again and again

Expurgating abscess, hemoglobic decay
A rotten mess, you finally became
Expurgation euphoria, until the bitter end”

Some idiot with a death wish from a thousand metal fists has “reinterpreted” Slayer‘s 1986 classic track “Angel of Death,” from Reign in Blood. This asshole didn’t even have the common courtesy to lube Slayer up before he went ahead and raped “Angel of Death” with dubstep strap-on. Yeah, this dubstep version of “Angel of Death” is a part of some super fake metal subgenre calling itself Deathstep. Yeah, since when has Slayer been a death metal act? Some people just try too hard.
