Stuart Gordon Biography
Stuart Gordon began directing films in 1985. He worked as a commercial artist for a period of time after graduating from Lane Technical High School, then enrolled at the University of Wisconsin in Madison, majoring in theater. He and his wife Carolyn formed the Organic Theater and moved the group to Chicago. Performing on and
off-Broadway, in Los Angeles and Europe, the Organic was responsible for launching of David Mamet's playwriting career with their premiere of his show, "Sexual Perversity in Chicago."
Teaming with Charles Band , Gordon directed Empire Pictures' first big hit Re-Animator (1985), based on the H.P. Lovecraft tale, starring Jeffrey Combs. Stuart Gordon continued collaborating with Band, and went on to helm horror classics such as From Beyond (1986), Dolls (1987), The Pit and the Pendulum (1991) and Castle Freak (1995).
